Introduction to technical parameters of wire mesh demister
Wire mesh demister structure
The wire mesh demister is mainly composed of a wire mesh, a wire mesh grid, a wire mesh block, and a supporting device for fixing the wire mesh block. The wire mesh is a gas-liquid filter made of various materials, and the gas-liquid filter is composed of metal wire or non-metal wire. The non-metallic wire of the gas-liquid filter is twisted from multiple strands of non-metallic fibers, or it can be a single strand of non-metallic wire. The wire mesh demister can not only filter out larger liquid foam suspended in the airflow, but also filter out smaller and tiny liquid foam. It is widely used in gas-liquid separation devices in the chemical, petroleum, tower manufacturing, pressure vessels and other industries.
National Standard for Wire Mesh Defoamer
HG/T21618-1998 is a replacement for the original Ministry of Industry standards (HG5-1404-81, HG5-1405-81, HG5-1406-81), revised based on the actual use experience of wire mesh demisters and the advanced technology of the introduced devices, merging the three standards into one standard, only divided into top-mounted and bottom-mounted types.
Model specifications: top-loading, bottom-loading, DG200-DG6400 and various non-standard wire mesh demisters (demisters).
Wire Mesh Defoamer Application
The wire mesh demister (demister) is used to separate the droplets entrained by the gas in the tower to ensure the mass transfer efficiency, reduce the loss of valuable materials and improve the operation of the compressor after the tower. Generally, the wire mesh demister is installed on the top of the tower. It can effectively remove the droplets of 3--5um. If the demister is installed between the tower plates, it can not only ensure the mass transfer efficiency of the tower plates, but also reduce the distance between the plates. Therefore, the wire mesh demister is mainly used for gas-liquid separation. It can also be used as an air filter for gas separation. In addition, the wire mesh can also be used as a buffer for various instruments in the instrument industry, such as an electronic shielding device to prevent radio interference.
Working principle of wire mesh demister
When the gas with mist rises at a certain speed through the wire mesh, due to the inertia of the rising mist, the mist collides with the wire mesh filaments and is attached to the surface of the filaments. The diffusion of the mist on the surface of the filaments and the gravity sedimentation of the mist make the mist form larger droplets that flow along the filaments to the intersection of the two filaments. The wettability of the filaments, the surface tension of the liquid and the capillary action of the filaments make the droplets larger and larger until the aggregated droplets are so large that the gravity generated by themselves exceeds the combined force of the rising force of the gas and the surface tension of the liquid, and the droplets separate and fall from the filaments. After the gas passes through the wire mesh demister, it basically does not contain mist. Separating the mist from the gas can improve the operating conditions, optimize the process indicators, reduce equipment corrosion, extend the service life of the equipment, increase the processing capacity and recover valuable materials, protect the environment, and reduce air pollution. It has a simple structure, small size, high defoaming efficiency, small resistance, light weight, and is easy to install, operate, and maintain. The wire mesh demister has a capture efficiency of 98%-99.8% for mist with a particle size of ≥3~5um, and the pressure drop of the gas passing through the demister is very small, only 250-500Pa, which is beneficial to improving the production efficiency of the equipment.
Wire Mesh Defoamer Detailed Introduction
The wire mesh demister is a gas-liquid separation device. The gas passes through the wire pad of the demister to remove the entrained mist. This standard (HG, T21618-1998) is based on the original Ministry of Chemical Industry standards: HG5-1404-81, HG5-1405-81 and HG5-1406-81, combined with the actual use experience of wire mesh demisters and the advanced technology introduced in the device. The new standard has the following changes compared with the original standard.
   1. Combine the original three standards into one standard for easy selection.
   2. The diameter range and specifications of the demister have been adjusted, and the nominal diameter specifications are appropriately dense.
   3. The wire types used in the demister are added, and the basic parameters of the wire mesh are given.
   4. Added new material varieties for wire mesh and grille.
   5. Added the process calculation content about demister.
The drawer type demister adopts HG and T21586-98 standards, and is composed of several wire mesh demister elements, which are inserted into the tower body through guide rails. The characteristics of this demister are that the demister elements can be replaced outside the tower body in terms of operation and maintenance, and it is suitable for absorption towers and drying towers of sulfuric acid plants.
The wire mesh demister can be made of domestic or imported high-quality materials: Q235, 304, 304L, 321, 316L, F46, NS-80, nickel wire, titanium wire and alloy materials for users to choose.
It is now widely used in industrial production of chemical industry, petroleum, sulfuric acid, medicine, light industry, metallurgy, machinery, and environmental protection.

Among wire mesh demister products, different materials have different applications. Let’s first talk about the common stainless steel type.
1. Stainless steel wire mesh demister has been widely used in various tower equipment such as vacuum tower, absorption tower, separation tank, gas separator, compression absorption tank, evaporator, washing tower, distillation tower, recovery container, dust collection device, etc.
HG5-1406-81 full-diameter wire mesh demister means that when the designed wire mesh demister diameter is equal to the diameter of the simplified equipment, the wire mesh demister is directly installed in the simplified equipment. This form is called full-diameter wire mesh demister, which is also divided into two installation forms: top-mounted and bottom-mounted.
2. Nickel wire mesh demister is particularly resistant to alkali corrosion and is relatively stable in high temperature or molten alkali, so it is mainly used in the alkali industry. At room temperature, nickel is extremely stable in seawater, salt solutions and organic media (such as fatty acids, phenols, alcohols, etc.).
The titanium wire mesh demister has very good corrosion resistance, especially in various concentrations of nitric acid, organic acid, chloride, wet chlorine gas and alkali.
3. The density of polypropylene wire mesh demister is small, and its strength, rigidity, hardness and heat resistance are better than those of low-pressure polyethylene. It can be used for a long time at a temperature of about 100 degrees. It has good corrosion resistance and can withstand corrosion from most organic and inorganic acids, alkalis, salts and organic solvents.
4. Monel 400 alloy (UNSN04400 or MCu-28-1.5-1.8 or Ni68Cu28Fe) for monel wire mesh demister is a nickel-based alloy material with good corrosion resistance in seawater, chemical solvents, ammonia, sulfur, chlorine, hydrogen chloride, various acidic media such as sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, organic acids, alkaline media, salts and molten salts.

The standard "HG/T21618-1998 Wire Mesh Defoamer" is revised on the basis of the original chemical industry standards HG5-1404-81, HG5-1405-81, HG5-1406-81, combined with the actual use experience of wire mesh defoamers and the advanced technology of the introduced devices. The structural design of general wire mesh defoamers can be based on this standard as a reference; the technical parameters of the filter screen for wire mesh defoamers can refer to: "HT-2001 Wire Mesh Defoamer Standard", "HG/T21618-1998 Wire Mesh Defoamer Standard", "HG/T21586-1998 Drawer-type Wire Mesh Defoamer Standard". The newly revised "HG/T21618-1998 Wire Mesh Defoamer" standard has the following changes compared with the original standard:
A. Combine the original three standards into one standard for easy selection.
B. The diameter range and specifications of the demister have been adjusted, and the nominal diameter specifications have been appropriately increased.
C. The wire mesh types used in demisters are added, and the basic parameters of the wire mesh are given.
D. Increased the variety of wire mesh and grille materials.
E. Added process calculation content about wire mesh demister to facilitate selection.
This standard specifies the structure, type, specification, size, technical requirements, marking, selection and use of wire mesh demisters. This standard is applicable to gas-liquid separation devices used in vertical cylindrical equipment in the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, light industry, environmental protection and other industries. It is used to separate the mist with a droplet diameter greater than 3 to 5 μm entrained in the gas.
The specification range of wire mesh demister is: DN300~DN12000mm (non-standard products are not limited by the specification range).
