N4 pure nickel alloy is a pure nickel alloy composed of trace elements such as manganese and copper and main nickel. It has good mechanical properties and excellent resistance in many corrosive environments. Other useful features of the alloy include its magnetic properties, magnetostrictive properties, high thermal and electrical conductivity, low gas content and low evaporation pressure. N4's corrosion resistance makes it particularly useful in applications such as food, artificial fibers and caustic alkalis that require product purity. It is also widely used in structural applications when corrosion resistance is the main consideration. Other uses include chemical delivery barrels, electronic and electrical components, aerospace and missile components.
N4 pure nickel alloy is a face-centered cubic structure solid solution alloy, and the microstructure usually typically shows a small amount of non-metallic inclusions, which are mainly oxides and do not change with annealing. Nickel 201 is more commonly used when used above °F (315°C). Nickel 200 and Nickel 201 are approved materials of construction by the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. N6 is approved for service up to 600°F (315°C) and N4 is approved for service up to 1250°F (677°C).
Main characteristics and applications of N4 pure nickel alloy:
1. N4 is pure commercial nickel with extremely low carbon content and has been approved for service in high temperature environments up to 1230℃.
2. Application areas of N4:
(1) Food processing equipment, salt refining equipment.
(2) Mining and marine mining.
(3) Equipment required for the manufacture of industrial sodium hydroxide under high temperature conditions above 300℃.
(4) Production of organic or inorganic chlorides and fluorides: resistance to chlorine and fluorine corrosion.
(5) Nuclear reactors.
(6) Retorts and components in heat treatment furnaces, especially in carburizing and nitriding atmospheres.
(7) Catalytic regenerators in petrochemical production are recommended to use alloy 600 in applications above 700℃ to obtain a longer service life.
